Hills, trams, and the best value city break in Western Europe.
Package from £89 · flight + stay from StanstedLisbon is one of the few European capitals where the budget-traveller experience and the postcard experience are basically the same thing. Pastel buildings tumble down hills toward the Tagus, vintage trams rattle through impossibly narrow streets, and a proper sit-down meal with wine still costs less than a sandwich back home. It's compact enough to explore on foot — if you don't mind the hills.

Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) sits within the city — the Metro red line reaches the centre in about 20 minutes for under £2, making it one of the most convenient airport-to-centre links in Europe. Taxis and ride-hailing apps cost roughly £10–15 to most central neighbourhoods.
Ryanair, easyJet and TAP all operate direct routes from Stansted and Luton, with flight times of around 2h35. Midweek departures outside school holidays are consistently the cheapest.
The oldest part of the city — a tangle of steep alleys, tiled façades, and small fado bars. Get lost in it deliberately; that's the point.
The famous yellow tram winds through several historic neighbourhoods. Ride it early morning or late afternoon to avoid the worst of the queues and crowds.
Two of the city's grandest monuments, a short ride west along the river — and right next to the bakery that invented the pastel de nata.
Lisbon's hills mean there's a postcard view around almost every corner. Miradouro da Senhora do Monte and Miradouro de Santa Catarina are two of the best for sunset.
A well-curated food hall bringing together some of the city's best kitchens under one roof — a good way to sample widely without committing to one restaurant.
